This first ICT unit at Culloden Academy is designed to familiarise pupils with commonly used software packages, including PowerPoint, Excel and Word. Although many pupils have used these packages in the past, it ensures they have a similar exposure to allow these packages to be used elsewhere in the school to enhance learning.
We now look at key software packages in a more structure way. Pupils are given the scenario that they are creating a number of documents for a fictional car show.
In this unit pupils are introduced to programming through the use of the MIT created Scratch. They create a number of games by following instructions which ensures a good understanding of the key features of the package.
Pupils make a still-image movie on an activity of their choice. They consider functions of moviemaker such as inserting text and pictures, using animation, changing formatting and timing and inserting music.
This unit considers social media, online gaming and digital footprints. It gives advice to pupils to ensure they are not in danger when using the internet.
